During my last standup in CBD Perth with T-Shirt and whiteboard stating “I AM A MUSLIM ASK ME ANYTHING”, I had a long discussion with a devout Christian fellow Australian. As expected, discussion revolved around the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for humanity.

I won’t go into the details of whether this sacrifice was actually needed or it helped humanity in getting rid of sin. This topic can be covered later. This blog is to show whether this sacrifice actually happened.

As per Christians belief, since original sin by Adam & Eve, every human inherits this sin. Therefore everyone is born with sin. Before Jesus Christ, everyone needed to sacrifice a life, human or animal like a lamb, in order to get rid of this inherited sin. This was the very reason Abraham sacrificed his son. Although Abraham sacrificed a lamb at the end, but his resolve to carry out this act makes it sacrificing his son. This need to sacrifice a life continued until a preplanned event of sacrificing the perfect lamb, Jesus Christ, by God, the Father. Therefore, now after sacrifice of the perfect lamb, humans don’t need to sacrifice a life to get rid of the original sin.

Further, on how the perfect lamb was sacrificed, Christian believe that Jesus was put on cross and gave up ghost, which means his spirit left his body, and he died on cross. His dead body was removed from cross and was kept in a spacious room like tomb in the ground for 3 days. After 3 days his spirit returned and he was resurrected. After he came back to life, he talked, eat, drink, slept like a normal human being and walked on foot to Galilee which is around 200KM from where he was sacrificed. After spending sometime in Galilee he left for heavens.

Now if you notice, the entire building of atonement is based on death of Jesus Christ for 3 days. If Jesus was proven to be not dead during these 3 days, atonement and hence the entire Christianity collapses like a house of cards. If Jesus didn’t die, he wasn’t sacrificed and he wasn’t resurrected. In that case, he was in coma and recovered, saved by God as he prayed all night before he was put on cross.

For a Christian to accept that Jesus Christ wasn’t dead during these 3 days, evidence should come from the Bible. Now the question is does the Bible give evidence of Jesus being alive during those 3 days? My answer is obviously Yes.

Although the Gospel of Barnabas clearly states that Jesus wasn’t crucified and it is evidence enough for wise, I shall keep my evidence limited to the four accepted Gospels. Many arguments can be presented in this regards, but to keep this blog short, an irrefutable argument, in my opinion, is presented.

First question is that was Jesus actually the Messiah and did he show any sign? Matthew Chapter 12 Verse 38 to 40:

The Sign of Jonah
38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”
39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Hence the only sign shown by Jesus was sign of the Prophet Jonah. Lets see what the sign of Jonah actually was. As mentioned by Jesus, Jonah was for three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish. During these three days Jonah was alive and protected by God. Hence sign of Jonah was, being alive and coming out alive from the belly of the fish.

Since dead cannot be same as alive, therefore Jesus, the Son of Man was alive for three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. As mentioned earlier being alive means no sacrifice and no sacrifice means no atonement. Hence the house of cards of atonement and the trinity based Christianity, as we know it today, can’t stand.

If Jesus was dead for three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, then he hasn’t shown the sign of Jonah, the only sign he promised to show for his claim of Messiah to be true. This proves Christianity to be a false religion to begin with.
